This is Tonji University Shanghai’s Bambu House at the European Solar Decathlon. It is a beautiful sun-powered abode inspired by nature. This house has two elegant sloping roofs. It is almost entirely constructed from bamboo. The solar array can generate 9 kilowatts of electricity which powers one bedroom, one living room layout.
The architects combined traditional Chinese architecture with state of the art technology that has temperature and humidity control systems, high-level thermal insulation systems, and a bamboo enclosed garden. This house is strongly influenced by traditional Chinese architecture but with a tinge of the efficient look of contemporary architecture. The Tonji University’s team has 20 members, they has spent six months designing and constructing the house from scratch.
