The Unique Origami Chair Called “Folder”

January 19th, 2012 Filed under: Furniture Design

It’s a unique chair which was designed by Stefan Schoenig. It seems a thin-structured piece of seating furniture standing up to much weight, let alone wind, rain and other outdoor elements. Each chair retains its paper-thin character by using tough, rigid and lightweight polypropylene. They also make the chair becomes more durable than typical wood, plastic or even metal.

This chair likes the real traditional paper origami; cutting, scoring, folding. The pieces and parts of this chair show their origins clearly. The curves within the legs and back serve as arch-style support to make them capable of holding up higher loads than one would expect. Some processes of this work were made with luxury audiences in mind, intended to be covered in leather and naturally only viable for indoor use.
