Design Shell Museum in Dalian China

This is the new Shell Museum in Dalian, China. This building has more than 5,000 kinds of precious shells from all over the world on display inside. This unique museum was designed by The Design Institute of Civil Engineering & Architecture of DUT. The exterior of this building has created quite a stir. The building contains about 18,000sqm of space. It has four floors above ground and one floor underground. The structure of this museum has the theme of shells. It mixes a multitude of versatile organic forms in the design.

The main exhibition features an overlapping roof which is made of QuadroClad™. It evokes an oversized seashell. The materials project demonstrates the customizable nature of Hunter Douglas’ curved products. From inside the building, there’s the glazed wall that looks transparent. From outside, it reflects the environment so effectively that the building seamlessly glides into blue sky and green sea. It appears as a series of shells. The concept plays with the building’s advantageous geographical site. It establishes the main exhibition space stretching out in an uphill direction.
